History of the FACE Summer Gala

Since the opening of the first school, it has been the desire of the Diocese of Fall River to make a Catholic education accessible to all families who wish to provide one for their children. It was to this end that, in 1991, the Diocese established the St. Mary’s Education Fund using the proceeds from the sale of the St. Mary’s orphanage home. The Fund, established as a separately incorporated entity, has since provided need-based scholarships to enable students to attend the Catholic Schools of the Diocese. In 2015, the St. Mary’s Education Fund changed its name to the Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE).

The Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE) continues to meet the original mission of the St. Mary’s Education Fund in supporting scholarships for children. The Foundation to Advance Catholic Education strives to support welcoming more culturally and economically diverse students to our Catholic Schools, while addressing the sustained increase in the demand for financial assistance for families seeking to send their children to our schools. The goal of the Foundation to Advance Catholic Education is to ensure that no child is deprived of the opportunity to attend one of the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Fall River due to financial hardship. A commitment to FACE is an investment in the future education and dreams of hundreds of children from all across the Diocese.

In Memory of Roy Jarrett, A Champion of Supporting Catholic Education

In 1997, the first St. Mary’s Education Fund Summer Gala Committee was created. Roy Jarrett joined the committee on Cape Cod as a founding member. He remained a dedicated member of what has become known as the FACE Summer Gala for 22 years. His presence could be found at every meeting, as he conscientiously volunteered for FACE and helped disseminate its importance in the wider community. Roy never missed the FACE Summer Gala. He was a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of FACE and proudly served as Chairperson in 2011. In 2019, Roy attended the 22nd Annual FACE Summer Gala and sadly passed away ten days later at the age of 91.

We honor our beloved friend Roy and remember him as a kind and generous person. He graciously and thoughtfully remembered FACE in his estate arrangements, leaving a legacy to benefit students. Through Roy’s generosity, his everlasting support will assist hundreds of children in need of financial support to receive a Catholic education.
