Peter A. Gay Memorial Scholarship

The Peter A. Gay Scholarship will benefit a graduating senior from any of the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fall River.

Mr. Gay was born and raised in Taunton. He graduated from Monsignor James Coyle High School with honors in 1964, and was a 1969 graduate of Northeastern University where he received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and went on to work at Raytheon Company.

He was very active in United Way campaigns, served as a member of the Sons of Italy and was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church in Lowell. He enjoyed time at his home on Cape Cod, was active in the annual Falmouth Road Race and was an avid outdoorsman.

Mr. Gay was a Raytheon Company vice president in charge of the company’s West Coast facility when he boarded American Airlines Flight 11 the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 for his for his regular travel from Boston. To honor his legacy, his family established this scholarship in his name.

Graduating high school seniors from any of the high schools in the Diocese of Fall River (Bishop Feehan, Bishop Stang and St. John Paul II) who plan to attend college and major in engineering are eligible to apply.
